Huge News for Xtreme Couture. ATT just got Marcelo Garcia, but Xtreme Couture camp just got Robert Drysdale. This guy has some new BJJ moves and has improvised a lot of the old BJJ stuff to make it work better when competing against guys that already know BJJ. His DVD set, Nth Dimension, is a good watch for anybody competing in No-Gi competition. He got popular after beating Marcelo Garcia in the Absolute during the ADCC 2007 competition.

“2007 Abu-Dhabi Absolute Champion, Robert Drysdale, is the newest member of Xtreme Couture. Robert just moved to Las Vegas, where he is living full time. He is
excited to be the newest addition to our Pro Team where he will train in
preparation for his MMA debut. Robert will be instructing the Pro Team in jiu
jitsu and will teach the jiu jitsu classes at the gym. He is also going to coach
our amateur submission grappling and jiu jitsu teams.”

Marcelo Garcia is coming out with a book. He has in the past released a few DVD’s, but this book will be one of his first.

Order now to have your copy in-hand on the release date of March 15, 2008!

Marcelo Garcia, winner of five Brazilian jiu-jitsu world championships and a man many feel is the best pound-for-pound submission grappler of all time, unveils the secrets behind the most effective guard system in existence-the X-Guard.

Unlike most jiu-jitsu instructional books, Garcia leaves no stone unturned. Not only does he show you how to sweep your opponent using the X-Guard from nearly every control position, he shows you how to do it both with a gi and without.

Covering everything from grips to timing, this book will be a savior to anyone wishing to compete in jiu-jitsu tournaments, no-gi grappling competition or mixed martial arts.

Eddie Bravo & Marcelo Garcia Lock up

Eddie Bravo went down to American Top Team to do a BJJ seminar for some of MMA’s elite fighters. Since Marcelo Garcia now trains there Eddie was actually there to help him as well. Here are a couple of pics of Eddie going over some BJJ moves. If I had to take a wild guess I am sure he covered the Twister and the Rubber Guard.

I am pretty sure Eddie would be well pleased if Marcelo added some of Eddie’s moves to Garcia’s deep BJJ arsenal. Maybe that’s what this thumbs up is about.

Marcelo Garcia has just joined American Top Team in Coconut Creek Florida. Alessio Sakara just joined a couple of days ago as well.

Marcelo is considered the best 170# grappler in the world today, and it will be
a great pleasure to take his world class grappling skills and help him
transition into a world class mma fighter.Marcelo will continue to represent
Fabio Gurgel and Alliance for his Gi and No-Gi grappling events, and will
represent American Top Team for all his MMA bouts. We would like to thank Fabio
Gurgel for allowing Marcelinho the opportunity to train with us to help further
his mma career. Marcelo will have his next scheduled fight in March at HERO’S
K-1 event and will be well represented with fellow ATT teammates JZ Cavalcante
and Denis Kang on the same card.Marcelo will also be opening an academy in
Weston, Florida in the next month or 2 so keep your eyes out for more
information coming soon about that.

The dominate BJJ superstar Marcelo Garcia lost his debut MMA match against Dae Won Kim. Marcelo dominated the first round. I thought for a little bit that he could end it at any time and that maybe he was just eating up the clock for practice. After a few attempted submission this was not the case. Garcia was trying to end it, but Kim kept defending well against all attempts and never put himself in anything he couldn’t get out of.

The Second round began and Kim started striking for keeps as he landed a couple of solid punches that made Marcelo back up and guard his face. Then Marcelo went in for a double leg but forgot about the knee as Kim blasted into his forehead. They wrestled a bit and Marcelo regained control of Kim, but all the blood attracted the referee’s attention and he stopped the fight.

It really sucks when a fight is ended because of a cut, but what can you do? It has even happened to the greats like Fedor.

(UPDATE: Marcelo will be fighting on October 28th in Hero’s Korea against Dae Won Kim) Marcelo loses after dominating the the first round, but in the beginning of the first round he caught a couple of punches then a knee that opened up a cut too severe for the fight to continue.

The moment that Brazilian Jiu Jitsu fans have waited for is here. BJJ will officially be brought back to life in the MMA world much like Royce Gracie did in MMA’s earliest days. The BJJ legend Marcelo Garcia is going to fight in MMA now. This is going to be epic to see an extremely good BJJ guy go into MMA. There have been a lot of guys go into MMA that have as the commentators like to say, “A Strong Jiu Jitsu Background”. This guy doesn’t just have a strong BJJ background, he has dominated the BJJ world so much in fact that in my opinion he is probably going into MMA for a new challenge. He has won The BJJ World Championships five times and the Abu Dhabi Submission Championships three years. That’s not even counting all his Absolute accomplishments he has racked up over the years. Some of the big names he has beaten that currently compete in MMA are people like Renzo Gracie(where he just flat dominated 0-9), Renato Babalu, Ricco Rodriguez, Kurt Pellegrino and Diego Sanchez.

Garcia is scheduled to debut with K-1 this September. This guy is a grappling phenomenon. That word is often misused, but in his case it just is not. Marcelo Garcia is planning to fight at 170 pounds. Oh yeah, he is only 25 years old.
